The MCAN Poverty Simulation is a guided experience that exposes participants to the realities of poverty, including the challenges of navigating the complex world of government services and other essential service providers. During the simulation, participants assume the roles of various family members that are living in low income households. The task for each family is to provide basic necessities and shelter during four 15-minute weeks, while balancing the requirements of various service providers with the realities of daily life. This experience moves you beyond your comfort zone to break down misconceptions of poverty, foster compassion for those facing these daily challenges, and educate you on the multiple ways you can get involved in your communities. This opportunity is open to the public free of charge and is most appropriate for an audience of high school age and older. We need at least 40 sign-ups in order to conduct this simulation, and it is a great opportunity to learn more about this program as a potential offering for your organization/network! If you have any questions, please contact Poverty Awareness Coordinator Sydney Angel at the information below.
