Winston-Salem, NC –For the 8th year, the Dixie Classic Fair has partnered with Lowes Foods to hold a food drive to benefit Crisis Control Ministry by giving a free fair admission ticket in exchange for five Lowes brand non-perishable food items. All day on Wednesday, October 5, all gates at the Dixie Classic Fair will have Crisis Control volunteers on hand to accept food donations and hand out fair tickets.
Crisis Control Ministry’s client choice food pantries in Winston-Salem and Kernersville provide almost 300 families a month with a complete grocery order to last about two weeks, including perishable items such as milk, butter, eggs, bread, chicken or beef. Crisis Control has seen a 20% increase in food requests. The donations received during the Lowes Foods Fair Food Drive will stock Crisis Control’s food pantries for about three to four months.
Some clients with ongoing health problems or who are disabled can be certified to receive food for up to six months. A certified food client remarked, “The food has been a real blessing because, being diabetic, it is expensive to buy the foods I can eat.”
Comments like this are frequently heard at Crisis Control Ministry and are the reason our volunteers are here day after day, committed to make a difference in the lives of those in our community who are hurting, hungry and scared.
Now in its 38th year and with offices in Winston-Salem and Kernersville, Crisis Control Ministry is a Christian-based ministry whose mission is to assist people in crisis to meet essential life needs and to become self-sufficient. Crisis Control Ministry also offers a food pantry and free pharmacy for Forsyth County residents.
